Demonstration Wetlands

Project findings demonstrate water quality benefits of treatment wetlands

Overview

The Sacramento Constructed Wetlands Demonstration Project was a five-year project conducted from January 1994 to December 1998. The emphasis of the project was on describing how treatment wetlands help remove trace metals.

Objectives of the project were to:

  • Monitor, analyze and describe how treatment wetlands improve water quality
  • Identify what happens to trace metals within treatment wetlands
  • Develop and evaluate treatment wetlands management methods with emphasis on:
    • Vegetation and Biota
    • Wetland Habitat Management
    • Hydraulic Management
    • Vegetation Management
    • Vector and Pest Control
    • Water Quality
